Today was the day that RonB's V2 Focus finally hit the briney way down south in Tassie.

Overall she sailed quite well in what could only be described as far less than ideal test conditions. She tracked straight and true with no evidence of pitchpoling or rounding up. The bow rides quite high out of the water (not unlike the DF95) so no doubt this assists. She looks fair on the water but the grey sails are rather drab in contrast to the hull. At first glance she looks like the sails are too tall for the hull (slightly over an IOM "B" rig) but on the water there was no evidence of this even in the big gusts we were getting today.

Unfortunately she is not a fast boat and while no doubt some of this is down to lack of fine tuning, today she was no match for my Ragazza IOM, even though the gusts were over powering my "A" sails and rounding up badly I was still getting far greater speed than the V2 and whilst my Ragazza is built (and certified) to IOM specs she is certainly NOT a fast IOM, more of a cruiser.

Hopefully next week, after Ron has completed his boom mods & fine tuning we will be able to match race her with Moose's modified V1 Focus (which, if I was a betting man, is where I would put my money).

The Good

1- Looks nice
2- Well finished
3 -Sails well

The Bad

1- Sail Winch issues as per DF 95 (major creep back & never parks in same place twice)
2- Radio issues as per DF95 (switch Tx off before Rx (or lose signal) and sailwinch goes to endpoint far beyond setpoint which results in boat damage)
3- Main Boom at least 20mm too short
4- Jib boom at least 20mm too short
5- Boom Vang far too short (when supplied fixed to boom) to allow for sail adjustment.




As can be seen in the attached video RonB has added 20mm to both booms to allow the sails to fit correctly but after sailing today he intends to redo the main boom by removing 10 to 15mm between the mast and the vang attachment and then re joining and then adding that amount + the 20mm to the boom end. This will allow the vang to be adjusted correctly. Unfortunately the vang saddle has been glued too well to the boom and wont release even with gentle persuasion, if it would slide then simply re fixing it in the correct spot may rectify at least one problem.  

Also worth noting, the replacement sailwinch, kindly supplied by HW has exactly the same fault so either they have a lot of old stock to shift or Joysway have to date done nothing about the sailwinch problems, both of which are pretty poor for customer relations.

During the week RonB will test both sail winches on 4.8v (4 x 1.2 NiMH LSD AA cells) which is what I am running in my DF95 and experiencing no issues at all with it at all.

"Abigail" (Aus 96) sailed in 10 of the 13 races last weekend at the 42Deg South Regatta for DF95's @ Risdon Dam and used less than 600Ma from a 2200Mah pack.

Pour les non-anglophones:

Globalement, il marche plutôt bien et dans des conditions pas franchement idéales, il va bien droit sans vraie tendance à enfourner ni à prendre de rouli. La proue reste haute hors de l’eau (pas comme le DF95) ce qui l’aide bien.
Sur l’eau, il a l’air sympa mais les voiles grises détonnent avec la coque. Au premier abord, on a l’impression que les voiles sont trop grandes pour la coque (Un peu plus grandes qu’un jeu B d’IOM), mais sur l’eau pas de souci même pendant les grosses rafales

Malheureusement, ce n’est pas un bateau rapide et pas de doute que cela vient en partie d’un manque réglages. Aujourd’hui il ne faisait pas le poids face à mon RAGAZZA IOM (Proboat), malgré qu’il porte ses voiles de jeu A sous les rafales et la grosse prise de rouli qui va avec: j’allais bien plus vite que le V2 et sachant que mon RAGAZZA est construit aux règles IOM, il n’est certainement pas aussi rapide qu’un bon IOM.

Si la semaine prochaine Ron a terminé ses modifs de bômes et réglages, nous serons capables de se battre avec le Focus V1 modifié de Moose (celui sur qui je parierais si je le pouvais)

Les plus:

1- Air Sympa
2- Bien fini
3 –Navigue bien

Les moins :

1- Même souci de winch qu’avec le DF95
2- Même soucis radio qu’avec le DF95 (même si la grande majorité n’utilisera pas la radio du kit)
3- La bôme de la grand-voile est 20mm trop courte
4- La bôme du Foc 20mm trop courte
5- Halebas bien trop court pour permettre de régler correctement la GV

je suis nouveau sur ce forum et je vous salue
je possède un focus
navigation par mistral supporté par contre il prend l'eau
nous avons tissu de verre + résine autour du mas et autour de la quille
idem lorsque je trempe le cul du bateau dans un seau jusqu'au sortie fil, allumage, gouvernail il se remplit si je m’arrête avant ces sorties pas d'eau
quel remède?
car j'ai un 2ème focus qui vient d'être monté et testé cet après midi et c'est la même chose
